I love the way this looks but how do you maintain it without stepping on plants? Sweet use of a small space.
The latest I know of is the Pheasant's Eye Daffodil, Narcissus poeticus var. recurvus. It blooms in early May here in Denver, z5.

The tiarellas look great. I have a variety with the same leaf pattern but mine send out trailing stems (think strawberries) and root everywhere. It was cute the first year or two, but now I'm annoyed! lol

Memory Garden
Like most gardeners, I've had certain people in my life that nurtured and encouraged my interest. One of my gardening mentors passed away last week. My aunt was 84 years old, and she put her vegetable garden in the first week in June. She is no longer here to harvest it, but I know she would be pleased that her daughter will have the fruits of her labor. If you are a gardener, you are a gardener till the end. My home now , once was my Mennonite Mother inlaws and she passed it very relunctantly to us, because she knew how much she'd miss her hands in that dirt ..... Tracey Yasi z6PA said… - Leeann, I would think September would still be fine for visiting Chanticleer, the reason being that they aren't as focused on flowers (no annuals in sight), but rather texture and interesting foliage in a more natural setting. My sister in law is a master gardener who came down from Ct. just to see Chanticleer and that was the end of August, and she was very impressed.
