What kind of gardening do you like to do?
I am zone 8B so I think we need Xeriscaping and Native plants to survive the heat.
How much time do you spend a week on average in your garden?
Summer is so hot, that we try to do as little as possible until Fall Winter and Spring. I still have to water every day or the plants can't take the heat.

Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them -:- A. A. Milne, Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh

I love butterflies and hummingbirds, deer and wild turkeys, snakes and tarantulas.. I draw the line at scorpions though. I can live without inviting them to my yard! I want my home to look like a vacation spot so that I am always revived when I drive up to the house. I want a functional backyard.. one that looks like a Mexican Courtyard.. full of color and life, with some Texas touches.. (ok.. that might mean beer on ice if you want to be technical).. and I want my kids to bring friends here to have fun, instead of wandering the countryside getting into trouble because there isn't much to do. I want to have my own private sanctuary, where I feel God is walking right beside me smelling the flowers and chatting with me on how beautiful He made this world, and how proud HE is of me for taking such good care of his creation.

I am so ashamed

Note: this is a learning experience.. and this article is deliberately written with a hint of humor.

I have been intolerant and prejudiced! I am just so ashamed! I used to look at the scraggly plants struggling in my yard among my grass and I devalued them on first sight. I put chemicals on them, waged war with them, and deemed them unworthy of my attention. I snubbed them and treated them as if they were worthless. Then I decided to learn to be a Native Plant gardener. Oh my. My idea of a flor… Continue

The meeting was fabulous, lots of great information from the Comal County Master Gardener speaker on draught tolerant plants. I have a sheet that I will scan in and email to you that you can use with a book that you probably already have. They sold it at the first meeting that I missed.

Hey Cynthia, how is it going? Are you going tonight? I hope so! The last meeting was fantastic and very well organized and the noise level was brought down on purpose! Hope to see you soon! Pamie G.

Hi Cynthia...can you believe I am just now getting to comment on your comment on my patio. You asked about the colors difference in between the tiles inthe patterned area and yes it is different...long story. But yes we put small travertine off white tiles because wehn they butted together in a trianlge there was a lot of space left there. I think it came out nice also. Thank you for commenting.

HI Cynthia...thanks for all the pottery places. I can't wait to go! I live right outside of SA in La Vernia and I would love to get together sometime to share and again those "fingers" are there if you want any anytime. Thank you so much for chatting and sharing gardens with me. May you have a fantabulous day!

It's me again. Thanks for commenting on my photos. I'm not sure hoe this works yet. If I responded on the photo page whether you would receive it or not. Those succulents in the window box I call fingers and let me tell you they are great. They are coming out my ears they do so well. You are close enough that if you would like some just let me know and I would be more than happy to send some your way:)

Hi Cynthia, thanks for the tips on the gophers. I hope I can do something, it is frustrating when the little critters just suck down a new plant AAARRRGGG. You have beautiful fotos. Thanks for sharing them.

Lydia, it sounds like you have a much bigger groundhog problem than I do! Funny thing is that our groundhog does not touch the tomatoes (although the chipmunks eat the ones that hang low on the plants). I guess that's because he is so obsessed with…

Thanks Mia and Tanya. These busy eaters will pretty much polish off all the Passion Vine leaves. Not to worry, they come back with a 'passion.'

Pretty boisterous thunderstorms in the middle of last night. Hubby slept through it. Our lovable mutt Rudy had to be sedated.. poor baby but he was fine then. JoJo, our 7 mo. old goldendoodle almost bounced off the bed when one super loud thunder cl…
