Clematis wilt is very common. I've lost many-a-plant (sigh). It is a fungus. The British call it “clematis wilt”, though some American gardening books refer to it as “clematis leaf and stem spot”. I prefer to call it “wilt” because it’s very descrip…

I don't know where you purchased your Clematis, but in my experience, I had to bring back the dead plant. I had two rose bushes that I planted in the back of my backyard, where it used to flood a lot. The roses got too much water and died. I now hav…

Google them, and lots of sites will come up. I've always loved them, and gladiolas, but never wanted to be bothered digging them up for winter. They have hardy gladiolas too!

Question! I have planted Heavenly Blue morning glories for many years, but sometimes they open up purple, and when I let them reseed, they come back purple. I have nothing against the purple ones, but I prefer the Heavenly Blue. Does anyone no the r…

When pruning fruit trees only cut about 1/3 of the branches in the spring. Lower 1st. Then as the tree gets taller you can trim off more the next year until you get the height you want then trim the top sprout to force weeping branches. Keep it stak…

Weeping Cherry Tree

I purchased a little Weeping Cherry Tree, only 6 inches tall. I transplanted it into a bigger pot, it's grown about an inch taller, but the branches have grown twice the size that they were originally. my question is, should I cut a branch off, so the tree will grow taller, or should I leave it alone? I thought that the branches are taking all the nutrients from the little trunk. Who knows about trees?

I'm pretty sure you're most likely done digging up grass for your flower beds, but have you ever tried the Garden Claw? I was a weakling when it came to physical labor outside earlier this past spring... The Claw made it possible for me to dig up all that pesky grass in my backyard to make room for my flowers, trees and shrubs. It worked great because all you do is shove it into the ground, twist, and pull!!!! It's too bad I had to give it back to my sister-in-law because I'd have much less grass than I do now, and WAY more flowers (if that's possible, LOL). We need more pics!!! Show us your progress!!!! Happy gardening!

Interesting! I always plant heavenly Blue from a new seed pack each year to insure the right plant.

Heavenly Blue Morning-Glory is a hybrid and when it produces seed, the seedlings always come up as having the purple flowers of one of the parents and usually hairy stems too. One must always replant Heavenly Blue seed.

I planted mine in the middle of flower beds so I guess I didn't have to worry about the lawn mower. I would leave it the way it is for now. If you prune the branches it will put it's growing energy into making more or longer branches instead of growing a taller and sturdier trunk....and of course fertilize. Good luck with it. They are beautiful in full bloom in the spring.

Hi Wendy,
I read your Weeping Cherry questions. I have grown many Weeping Cherry Trees. What is the purpose of putting it in a pot? Do you have it outside? You don't mention where you live (what gardening zone) so I'm not sure of what advice to give. I never purchased one shorter than 4 or 5 feet tall. If you want it to flourish in your yard/garden somewhere...I would plant it there and let it start to grow in the ground for the summer. It might do better...really depends upon how harsh your winters are. The branches do grow longer than the trunk is tall. Mine all hit the ground and then some. If you go to my page and go through my photos you will find a photo of one in full bloom that I took this spring. Hope I was helpful.

Diane, sorry for not making my message more clear - my reminder was about those shrubs that need to be scaled down and in my region (zones 5 & 6) the buds for the next season form on new growth in August so cutting the brunches after July would have…

Love this flower. Never was able to grow it though. Thought it was called queen Anns Lace. I think it adds charm to the garden.

Sheryl, that shouldn't be a problem, I have a seed feeder in close proximity and the humming birds seem happy enough to share. They just seem to perch on the tiny twigs where the big guys cant get to. Chech the surronding territory, perhaps someone…
