Has she planted them too deep? I've been told that you should be able to see the "eyes" sticking out of the ground. I had to replant one of mine that just wasn't producing and now it's going crazy. It was just planted too deep in the soil.

What a lovely sanctuary. I like the idea of using tall grass as a living wall. I don't suppose that stuff does well in shade? Also - can you leave the furniture and cushions out in the rain? Do you have to put it away for winter?

I have to agree, after they bloom is the best time. Usually July or August. Make sure to cut the foliage back to about 6" before you replant.

I never do anything more than just pluck them off right behind the rose head and all of my rose bushes, old, new, tea and kockouts all bloom profusely!

I have yucca and I'm in Zone 5 (Ohio). Grows great just about anywhere!

Oh, and remember to thin them out every now and then or they can be a mess!!!

Deadhead them until it's done blooming and it's OK to cut off the flower stem. Wait until fall and cut everything back to about 6" and they will come back just great.

Our dogwood tree is just starting to get leaves! Even our Maples are in full leaf. It's funny, we actually noticed just the opposite. Things have been beautiful here this year, however, some things that I have been able to leave go in years past and…

In agreement with all of you on the lamb's ear and lemon balm...do any of you have Resurrection Lilies? Well, if you don't and would like a few, I'm sure I could accommodate. I dig them out by the 5-gallon bucket full!!!

I don't believe that these are cleomes. I've had these growing in my flower beds before and they are just weeds. They will get very large and put down deep roots. I would get rid of them now.

Thanks for the advice! Looks like you were very busy over the weekend. We had rain all weekend! So how many gallons is your pond then? How deep does it need to be to leave the plants in to over winter? If we could ever get a couple days in a row on the weekend that were nice I might be able to accomplish something outside. I have been running out between raindrops just to try and pull weeds!

Hello Tammy! I love your pics! I too am in zone 5 and starting to stock a pond. We moved into a new home last June that has a established pond. It has 3 levels with a small waterfall. The previous owners had relocated the winter before so it was left to its own devices until we moved in. Quite a mess! It is made of preformed shells. Looks like 100 gallons for the 1st two and the bottom one was maybe a 75 gallon. When we got a pump and started it all the water drained from the bottom section before it could get back down there, so we are replacing it with a 100 gallon and putting in a decorative spray head. Any advice you may have about starting and maintaining I would appreciate! We have never had a pond before, so I need to stock it this year. Not sure about fish, what do you think? I know they would have to be small and brought in for the winter, but do the pros out weigh the cons for upkeep with fish?

Well I have several sources of water, 3 bird baths and our waterfall in our pond. Never had this problem before. I have always had hummers. Just wondering if the winter weather we had messed them up. Oh well maybe next year.

Diane, sorry for not making my message more clear - my reminder was about those shrubs that need to be scaled down and in my region (zones 5 & 6) the buds for the next season form on new growth in August so cutting the brunches after July would have…

Love this flower. Never was able to grow it though. Thought it was called queen Anns Lace. I think it adds charm to the garden.

Sheryl, that shouldn't be a problem, I have a seed feeder in close proximity and the humming birds seem happy enough to share. They just seem to perch on the tiny twigs where the big guys cant get to. Chech the surronding territory, perhaps someone…
