Hey Susan...I wish I had some winter photos of my garden to share. We're in an El Nino year so are going from cold and foggy to now rainy. I might have been able to find some fun pictures of fog freezing on things but with the busy-ness of December it didn't think to get outside to look for photo ops. However, I did get some photos of a frozen Multnomah Falls in the Columbia Gorge from mid-December. Eugene was once again cheated of snow yesterday when the rain came in and pushed out the cold fog. Just north of us the snow hit Salem and Portland. I'm feeling whiney...ha!
If you are interested, go look at the Humming Bird Plants group and under the discussion "when should I take in my feeders" I have pictures there from Jan. 2008 with snow and a hummer feeding.

I don't mind the chipmunks up here, it's the diabolical bunnies that wreak havoc on my shrubs. My daughter is at University of Missouri in Columbia, and her wildlife consists of feral kitties and woodchucks (apparently also called "whistling pigs") living under her deck.
Thanks for friending me, even though it makes me all nostalgic for my zone 6 garden.

Hi Susan - Thanks for your comment. My profile picture is from one of my favorite artists/poets, Brian Andreas who does a series called "Story People". (I wonder if I need permission to use this?) Anyways, I have always found his art insightful and an expression of my own inner thoughts and feelings.
As to my thoughts on "plant whispering"... I personally have experienced what I perceive to be plants emanating their ability to communicate with us humans. Whether it's their response to music, kind or harsh words, (especially when I've threatened a particular plant for misbehaving! LOL), and their ability to communicate their healing attributes - I find that if one is very conscious of the plant world around them, you can't help but feel the relationship we can have and our ability to inter-relate with plants on not only a physical level, but also emotional and spiritual levels as well. Therefore, I thought this would be a fun place to hear about other peoples experiences and observations on any level of "plant whispering".

Appreciate your comments. We have had great weather this summer so my gardens did well. I love the colors of fall but it is sad to start removing the spent flowers of summer.

Thanks for the comment. We quite often keep a vase of cut flowers on our kitchen table, but it's mostly just to keep my old "farmer" blood happy. There's nothing like digging in the dirt.

Yes, the plants in my garden are all my children, I water them, feed them, check on the daily, worry if they are not growing, receiving enough water, and keeping them fit and trim. I am now also into birds and wanting chickens. I see Brenna is your friend and amongst other things, she is the chick expert!!

The hoarfrost was absolutely gorgeous yesterday morning. I took as many photos as I could without walking 'out' in the snow.

Havent been able to get out to take many photos this winter because of my knee and shoulder problems. We have had two 'big' storms and I missed a lot of photo ops. These are from last year.

I took this picture tonight at sunset. It was the first color I've seen outdoors since the new year began. Most everything is covered by 3+ feet of snow. It was really beautiful to behold.

Thanks, Gail. I'm so glad that bench is there as it has become the subject of many of my photos.

Can't help myself..taking pictures is addicting.. For those cat lovers out there, I thought would throw in a photo of the UK comic character, Simon the cat, who visited us for Xmas. Always hungry he found "a friend" outside who had a sympathetic ear…

Well I have several sources of water, 3 bird baths and our waterfall in our pond. Never had this problem before. I have always had hummers. Just wondering if the winter weather we had messed them up. Oh well maybe next year.

Sheryl, that shouldn't be a problem, I have a seed feeder in close proximity and the humming birds seem happy enough to share. They just seem to perch on the tiny twigs where the big guys cant get to. Chech the surronding territory, perhaps someone…
