Murphy's Law

I had such fun this spring as I jumped into high gear preparing garden spots and going to sleep each night with a great plan to bounce me out of bed each morning. Project after project. List after list. idea after idea. fun after fun. Work, Work, Work, sweat, smile, stare, ponder, meander...I LOVED this spring. I found myself weeding in the rain, painting in the intermittent sun, mowing after dark, wondering when I ate last!!! Such fun. I saved my patio as my last project. When I finished it, I… Continue

Bad Idea

The screen hasn't worked at all...it wasn't strong enough to allow me to move it anywhere else, so I had to shovel everything off...on a very humid day...not fun....except that I had constructed a 2 bin compost container from the pallets and I was excited to get all the crap in there,,,so I was motivated....building was easy, finding pallets was easy..I even found covered wire in the garage where you can hardly find the car...oh yeah..cause it's not in there...no room...maybe when the kids quit… Continue

Okay, so now I think the screen will be a topper. I am going to make a 3 stall bin out of pallets and put this as a cover on the first 2 and leave the 3rd one open. I may even start tomorrow, my open bin is ugly and close to fencing..not good I think Continue

I don't like the screen on the bottom of the compost pile. I don't know why I did that except maybe I wasn't sure I wanted the pile to stay there and with the screen all i have to do is pick it up and move it..(maybe i'll use the screen to dry herbs later ) .after working around the barn today moving old tin, bricks, etc..(use to have rabbits there)...that may be a better spot for compost...no..that would be great for my transplants maybe..hm....well..i guess i'll have to get a bit more into thi… Continue

compost pile

i for some reason dug up my corner plot of kitchen dump, grass clippings, some leaves and dirt...it was the softest stuff ever...made it a nice rectangular area and laid the 6 foot patio sliding screen door that my mother cursed at and i carried home from wv to ky in the back of my car...maybe i was burying it and not concerned with compost at all, but...i laid it down and covered it with my wonderful pile of crap.........even dumped more kitchen scraps in the mix...is this a bad idea???? a not… Continue

Greetings, Rebecca, from a gardener in central Oklahoma. I was looking for your latest adventures in composting. I have a great cold compost maching.

Hi Rebecca, it was nice hearing from you. I agree with you, being able to share keeps me going to. I look forward to sharing and hearing other peoples comments. You have given me some great ideas. I just finished bed #2 and will be posting some pics soon. I worked in the garden a little but it has been so so hot here in Texas that working a couple of hours in the morning is about all I can take. Look forward to seeing more of you pics. Let me know when you post any new ones sometimes I can't keep up with all the postings. Have a fantabulous day.

You were smart taking that break. I on the other hand was out there from 9am to 4pm and I'll tell ya it was hot but satisfying. I got most of it cleaned out. I now have war wounds (scratched, bees stings and cuts) but that's ok. I was thinkin gof posting some of the pictures. I know in my video I show howit looked but now it really looks better...not great but better. What do you think or should I just wait until it all done. Look forward to hearing from you....oh and thanks for the advice, next time I really will stop before I speak and think about where that person may be. With God's help I think I can do it. Have an awesome evening.

Thanks for the compliment on the shed. We love it too =)
Everyone is saying there is no such thing as too many coffee grounds. Worms love them. And another person said that acid loving plants like hydrangeas and azaleas/rhodies love it when you put the grounds right on them. So your friend is right! =)
Your garden is lovely! So many sweet and classic touches. Beautiful!

My mom likes to collect rocks for her garden as well. Whenever we would hike in the Adirondacks, as kids, Mom would find some rock we would have to drag home for her garden! Her section of NY is very sandy.
I am just thrilled that I can now actually grow radishes and carrots!
My oldest friend in the world lives in Louisville, so I mark the whole state from that location!

Birds are really active the last few days. I've had Pinon Jays, Robins, Nashville Warblers, Grosbeaks, Tanagers, about 15 hummers and unidentified vireos, until this morning. Finally, I was able to get a couple photos of the Plumbeous Vireo. Please…

Every Spring there is at least one new piece about a mocking bird dive bombing some poor 5-9ers as they try to get into their buiding because of a close by nest. They really are interesting birds. I agree, inquisitive and outgoing but not mean.
