Thank you for your kind words, Nora! I did build the bridge myself out of cedar. It's held up extremely well for 5 years. I found the plans on line. If I can find the site , I'll post the link. I'm helping a newbie design a small pond and I'm using yours as inspiration!. Thanks!

Hi Nora, Thanks for the nice comment. I have almost 2 acres and since I am retired I can be out in the yard everyday. I have been busy cleaning up all the mess left by a few winter storms and raking out the beds since I use leaves as a winter mulch. Things are beginning to bloom which inspires me to be outside. Have a great day.

Hi Nora and thanks for your kind comment on my backyard! Your flowers are absolutely gorgeous!! I have a problem with voles and every time I plant a perennial they eat it right up. I've tried several things - even planting things in hardware cloth. It's so frustrating!!! I think you are probably looking for to spring as much as I am. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for the compliments. My backyard is 1.5 acres, but once you get through the buffer in the back of our property you see the back of a Home Depot. lol

Like they say, you eat an elephant one bite at a time! But I know that we gardeners like to get things done to how we imagine them right away! The lovely part is that it is always a work in progress. Thanks for the nice comments and good luck with y…

Thanks Nora. As you can see, I have a long way to go. My lovely plum tree loses more plums than we can eat. Anyway, its season is almost over and I am eager to landscape around it and have my foliage in the back, along with a swing. Lots of work and…

When we put in our paths we put landscape fabric down underneath a healthy amount of gravel. It's amazing, but weeds will still grow there, but at least they're easy to pull out. When we decided where the path should go, we thought about how we woul…

Bob, Thank you for your help again. I'm such a newbie when it comes to outdoor planting/gardening. Here's where I want my path to go...

Ms. Brenner: Weeds are just beautiful plants in the wrong place... embrace them! :) To lay the path, take two hoses and lay them along at what would be the sides of the path. They are easy to move and you can try different designs...backing off to…

Nora: Great! The diminishing view technique works well for straight paths as well... it's just a matter of up close, have the plants back away from the path and then gradually encroach over the path further down the path. Result is the path looks mo…

I would love to create something like this as a walkway between my two gardens and under my plum tree. Any ideas on how to get started? I want to prevent dreaded weeds from popping up everywhere.

awesome yard !

Gee thanks! Though I'm sure it's just happy chance. Truth is the pathway just had to curve to the right. But I will remember that in future!

Lovely Nora! Great dry stream and really like the "diminishing view" walkway that gives the illusion of the path being longer than it really is. It's a landscape technique used by Fredrick Law Olmsted (Sr and Jr) in landscape design extensively. Wel…

Clare, your Pinky Winky is beautiful - love the blooms and the pink coloring of the branches too. My paniculatas Pee Gee and Limelight are already blooming too, about a month ahead of schedule! Now I am wondering whether I should have done reshaping…

Diane, sorry for not making my message more clear - my reminder was about those shrubs that need to be scaled down and in my region (zones 5 & 6) the buds for the next season form on new growth in August so cutting the brunches after July would have…

Crazy rainstorm last night, ripped down half the ivy on the wall. Had to cut it down, so I figured what the heck I'll collect snails in my garden. Armed with chopsticks (they make it way easy to gather up tiny guys under plants if you are profficent…

Love this flower. Never was able to grow it though. Thought it was called queen Anns Lace. I think it adds charm to the garden.

Sheryl, that shouldn't be a problem, I have a seed feeder in close proximity and the humming birds seem happy enough to share. They just seem to perch on the tiny twigs where the big guys cant get to. Chech the surronding territory, perhaps someone…
