Hi Deborah,
1. Consider the type of fertilizer that you are using. Is it high in nitrogen?
2. It's quite possible that the rhizomes are crowding each other, in which case you need to dig, divide and replant in the spring.
Sorry to be slow in responding, I am still cleaning up from the D----- Oak fall. Anyway all pots at Jerry's are 50% off but the very large ones are 65/75% off. The teri cotta ones over on the shelves are almost gone and I didn't see a sign for sale prices. By the was my PeeGee Hydrangea tree is in full bloom, I hope the heat in the next few days doesn't cause early demise of the blooms
P.S. Maggie, I too have H.m. Nigra (2) that I propagated from cuttings. The climate here is a bit too harsh for them so I might get one or two flowers (if I'm lucky) while most of old wood is lost. Even though the zone is supposed to be 6A it is only 5 as far as I am concern.
Just viewed your pics - simply beautiful! Loved candid shots of birds and insects having a snack.
Hello Maggie, I am happy to have another hydrangea aficionado in that group helping to answer questions. Hope you are not the type that would destine PeeGee and Endless Summer for compost pile as someone else did, LOL! Transplanting mature shrubs is plenty of shock to recover from, so I'd say, just have faith.
Hi Maggie, I am sooo tired of all this rain and wind. A few weeks ago I had all my beds in good order, now the weeds are taking over again. I did work outside yesterday and got a bit done, today it's so windy it will be a mess again. I am going to the NCAA track meet Fri/Sat and I am sure I will miss a couple of good garden days. Finally got my vegies in a week late now if it will warm up so they can grow I will be pleased. We will catch up eventually I am sure.
Thanks to you Maggie, I discovered Nemesia - and I bought some "strawberries and cream" today - okay it's not the blue - yet! - but it is gorgeous! I would never have known!
Clare, your Pinky Winky is beautiful - love the blooms and the pink coloring of the branches too. My paniculatas Pee Gee and Limelight are already blooming too, about a month ahead of schedule! Now I am wondering whether I should have done reshaping…
Diane, sorry for not making my message more clear - my reminder was about those shrubs that need to be scaled down and in my region (zones 5 & 6) the buds for the next season form on new growth in August so cutting the brunches after July would have…
Crazy rainstorm last night, ripped down half the ivy on the wall. Had to cut it down, so I figured what the heck I'll collect snails in my garden. Armed with chopsticks (they make it way easy to gather up tiny guys under plants if you are profficent…
Sheryl, that shouldn't be a problem, I have a seed feeder in close proximity and the humming birds seem happy enough to share. They just seem to perch on the tiny twigs where the big guys cant get to. Chech the surronding territory, perhaps someone…
