It does appear to be Philadelphus or Mock Orange, not all of them are fragrant. You should have no problem grooming them but they are naturally fountain like. Shearing them to a form isn't their best look- but heading the branches back, or cutting t…

I am wondering about the lack of fragrance too. Has it been cold? A lot of flowers need warmth to bring out the fragrance...I know our roses smell stronger during the hot part of the day.

I agree. WEED. It will be everywhere if you don't pull it out. Many weeds try to look like other plants. I have a rule, if I am not sure I will plant it in a pot just to be sure. If it doesn't bloom or look ornamental then I make sure to destroy it.…

Starting seeds.

I am in Kansas, but I can not wait any longer. I am starting some seeds inside. I am expanding my cool plants, and making an herb garden this year. My problem is that I love to cook Italian and my son (10) want a tea garden. Were to begin and stop.

Hi Lisa and "Thank You" for your comment on the watercolor painting I did of Gail Freiherr's photo. She has quite the eye for photographing birds and I find them inspirational! There is a new group for painters that I've become a member of. The group creater is a wonderful talented painter herself!

Hi Lisa, Do you know what type the rose is? Any major pruning should have been done in the late fall. If you cut it back that drastically it will be a set back. If it's a climbing rose or a rambler there will not be any flowers this season. It takes several years to develop flowers on the climbers. The blooms grow on old wood. Does this answer your question? Let me know if you need more info?

Lisa I am a big fan of Roses. I see you like Irises too. They are my next favorite flower. I like to see the pictures of out peoples gardens. You get new Ideas. Your question on the wild violets is a difficult one because they self seed. Even if you dig them up they will come back. I love them personally but I understand your frustration.
Send them my way. LOL

Lisa, thanks for the friend invite. I'm glad you are feeling better. I saw you are a member of the roses group. Last week, my husband and I stopped in at Loose Park and walked through the rose garden. It is just beautiful. We were in a hurry on the way to a relative's house for dinner so we didn't have much time. I hope to go back with my camera and take some pictures. Have you been there before?

Hi Lisa--- Thanks for adding me as a friend. I have a ravine in my back yard that's naturally edged with wood violets. I started to introduce some into my flower gardens a few years ago as a fill in, but this year--- OH MY !!----they've just gone wild! Huge! In sun or shade! Guess I'll just pull some out and try to control them that way.
Your pictures are lovely!
