I'm still looking for old rakes at antique stores to add to my collection. Here is one that I hung an egg basket and lined it with spagum moss and added the petunia's.

Ever notice that kitties have the ability to put themseves in a place that contributes to their own colouring; enhances their beauty?

yummy

Mmmm....spring is such a delicious time. Creamy whites, taffy yellows and all the minty greens. I particularly love the jelly bean colors of fushia, pinks and purples. Today with the warm sun it was a true delight on my walk.

Spring?

Awww..spring is here. It is..I know cause thats what the calendar says. The sun being out is a big help too. I go out back and there are all my pretty daffs blooming. Oh wait, they were beheaded by the hail storm a few days ago. Even the foilage is shredded. The storm was a great opportunity though to get the yard raked a second time! Nothing I like better than raking up hundreds of little, big, and huge sticks and bashed bark after having raked the yard earlier once before. Normally I enjoy t

January close to an end.

Winter..dreaded winter, by most, especially in the midwest. Usually I like it. Love the exercise of shoveling..the memories of all the fun the kids and I had in the snow. And most of all I love the beauty of it. Colorless? Hardly. There is such a range of browns and whites and blues, yes blues. But the textures have been breathtaking this season. One morning we had hoarfrost that would rivel any artist and her paintbrush. With the warm days and cold nights, the fog in the early morning froze on… Continue

Can you hear me now?

I thought as much as I enjoy writing, I would post here every week if not every day. Unfortunately because of my lack of participation in the garden I had nothing to post about. It has been eight months since my total knee replacement and I have had yet another manipulation three weeks ago. I fear I am scarring up again. The pain is unbelievable and even though now I can get it to a full range bend plus a couple degrees, I feel that tightness like a vise on either side.
I dont know what will hap… Continue

Summer is here

I have been recovering slowly from this knee replacement surgery. Very slowly. I had to have a 'manipulaton' two weeks ago to tear loose all the scar tissue built up since the surgery. I am now making great progress but still limited in much of what I can do.
My containers are filled. I guess I wont pull out all my teapots that I love to line up in the shady area of the garden filled with white impatiens. Also trying to keep some of the weeds kept at bay in the beds out back but I wont be planti… Continue

This was taken about 2:30 this afternoon. It poured down for about 30 minutes and then all of a sudden we had blue skies again. Around 5:45, it turned ugly again and has been pouring, thundering and very strong lightening ever since. We are so wet here, it is standing in the ditches.

Kristin -The fountain is a display at a fountain store in Clarence Ctr.,NY. It is out front next to the bicycle fountain. I believe it is a copper birdbath with copper hand wrought vines and leaves.

Thanks for the comment. Some people don't like the moss. They actually pressure wash it off. Funny Huh. Especially since Martha Stewart has a formula for growing it.

Kristin, there are gobs of reasons for Daffodils not blooming. From picking the wrong ones, over crowded, feeding at the wrong time, etc. Check this out: http://www.viette.com/v.php?pg=714
We have thousands of Narcissus, many, many varieties...all good for the south and do very little extra fertilizing as our soil is seemingly naturally balanced and is fairly good at self fertilizing.

Sheryl, that shouldn't be a problem, I have a seed feeder in close proximity and the humming birds seem happy enough to share. They just seem to perch on the tiny twigs where the big guys cant get to. Chech the surronding territory, perhaps someone…
