As much as time, mother nature and my energy allows! We have 20 acres and are working towards self-reliance. Putting in huge orchard / garden to feed ourselves, help with parents and others in need. Plans are to also sell local fruits and vegetables along side developing my massage therapy business and making creams, lotions and goats milk soap. I am very much into the nutrition aspect of gardening: Growing our Nutrition and educating others to do the same.

Hi Kathy:) I guess I just noticed that you live in Arkansas? My husband and I know some folks that live in Little Rock:) Hot and humid there, eh? You must have many opportunities to grow things that I only dream about - such as a crape myrtle? Those bougainvilleas? Jasmine? Sooooo beautiful - sold here only as patio plants:( Thinking of you today - we FINALLY got some sunshine here for a couple of hours:) I'm going outside now - before it leaves!!!

Wow, she is a doll! I wondered if they weren't allowed to garden out there. I know if he or his wife are motivated enough, there are some local community gardens throughout the city that I have seen. If they are interested, I could find a link for you to send them, or a name perhaps. I have seen some wonderful things in those gardens, that are definitaly not grown locally.

I know airpark well. Seems like the snow will never end here. Does your son garden? Black ice, that must have been a terrible accident.

Where abouts in Lincoln? Wish I could be raking. We are having a terrible blizzard AGAIN! I am sitting in my office at work and the drift is 1/2 way up my window. I miss green SO bad. I put a rose with greens and pussy willow on my kitties grave in the back yard and a desperate rabbit ate the greens and rose leaves. Poor guy....

I've found that heucheras don't like an unamended, heavy clay soil. My best success with them, including 'Palace Purple', is to add some compost or other soil amendment. Even in Missouri, the purple ones color up best with lots of sun.
