I'm so glad I joined this group. I really don't know that much about roses and didn't know my problem was a common one! I will keep an eye out for OWN Root plants too. Another new thing I learned!
LOL! I'm so glad you all got so much entertainent out of my sucker whacking activity! Karen--those sucker flowers are pretty cute and I think I would keep them somewhere too. After all, it should be about what pleases us, not? I was not fond of the…
Yes--I took the lopers to it. All that remains is a single stalk topped with little pink blooms. I cleared out all of the black eyes susans and siberian iris that were crowding the base, and the suckers will be easy to spot because they are not as t…
That is what I suspected. I'm heading out to give it a serious sucker wacking. I thought about replacing it, but I've never seen another like it. I'm gonna give it my best shot.
Good morning. I'm new to the rose group, and although I've been gardening a long time, I have limited experience with roses, and actually prefer miniature varieties. I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. Some years ago, when I bo…

Sunshine today after a couple days of rain! Things are going to pop now!
My iris seem to have developed buds overnight. I can't wait till they pop. I used to have a pink rose planted by my black iris and it was striking. Combining plants is something I need to get better at though. Lots of times I buy plants just because…

Sharing my plants via craigs list. A great way to meet other gardeners!
Sheri--
Thank you for that information. I'll pass that on to my friend, and perhaps he will share some with me! This is a fun group to be a part of. Iris are some of my favorites, especially the sweet smell.
Hello all you Iris nuts! An aqaintance sent me these photos and asked me to identify this plant. I think it is a variety of Japanese iris. Does anyone know?
Cynthia, I am not sure just were Hamburg is but we here in Pittsburgh got more than a "blanket" of snow....I have anywhere from 18" to 4 ft(piles of snow from shoveling). My bulbs were sending up shoots last week...they were about 4 inches tall and now I am hopeing they will be ok in the spring. Thanks for adding me.
Cynthia - My daughter has a dog - will try to get some from her. I am willing to do almost anything. Tonight I found a large hole in the ground near some new everygreens. I feel like they are invading my yard.
Clare, your Pinky Winky is beautiful - love the blooms and the pink coloring of the branches too. My paniculatas Pee Gee and Limelight are already blooming too, about a month ahead of schedule! Now I am wondering whether I should have done reshaping…
Diane, sorry for not making my message more clear - my reminder was about those shrubs that need to be scaled down and in my region (zones 5 & 6) the buds for the next season form on new growth in August so cutting the brunches after July would have…
Crazy rainstorm last night, ripped down half the ivy on the wall. Had to cut it down, so I figured what the heck I'll collect snails in my garden. Armed with chopsticks (they make it way easy to gather up tiny guys under plants if you are profficent…
Sheryl, that shouldn't be a problem, I have a seed feeder in close proximity and the humming birds seem happy enough to share. They just seem to perch on the tiny twigs where the big guys cant get to. Chech the surronding territory, perhaps someone…
