I am an old East Texas anthropologist/cowboy who now raises chickens, guineas, and peacocks, instead of cattle. I ran across this site and am looking forward to learning horticulture from the members.
Thanks

Started walking around with a sharp pair of shears in my pocket. If someone is out in their garden, I visit, and snip, snip, snip. Nice way to get starts from the garden. I am thinking of next year having a garden plant and seed exchange. I just nee…
hi everyone, my name is leah. i'm most definitely a frugal gardener (who wants to go & pay $20 for a plant when you can get a heap of cuttings for free?) my fiancee' & i are busy (when he's not away for work) getting our garden up to scratch, right…
I have a friend who works at the grocery store in town, and when he is ready to toss produce he calls me, I have made pineapple jam and jelly, Kiwi -strawberry jam, kiwi jam, Bananas galore in the freezer. I have extra now to sell at the farmers mar…
Thanks everyone. I am very blessed to have five grandchildren. My littlest one is Hudson, the little guy in the blue hat on my profile pic. Twins are visiting from CA next week and we are so excited!!!
Wow, Sheron, those hudrangeas look great!
MAE, make a day of it and have a 'picnic basket' lunch down the road at The Back Porch restaurant, wander through the gift and antique bldgs and especially the old-fashioned garden shop. (I found my 'lemon ice' licorice plant here). Then go to the n…
7 things I have learned in the garden this year:
1. The saying “Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth” does not apply to volunteer cantaloupe vines.
2. A cantaloupe vine can choke the life out of a pepper plant (or three or four of them).
3. Don’t…
While at HD the other day, I deadheaded some of their biggest and best marigolds, brought home the dried heads and dried them overnight before separating the seeds. Today, split open two bags of commercial garden soil and liberally sowed the seeds i…
Pauline, that's a place the I look forward visiting next time I'm near the area. I checked mapquest and it's only around 50 miles from my friend's place in Tampa.
MAE, great find! It's hard to find places like that! There is a nursery we like to go to in Lake Alfred that is a training center for the handicapped with good prices, knowledgeable people and sometimes unusual plants.
Hi Connie, I live just 11 miles from Denton, TX. I live in Oak Point off of 720 Near Little Elm, Tx. Howdy neighbor! Hope you have a great day! Love your pictures.. Jenn
I'm a Facebooker look me up. Jennifer Newman
Hi Connie. I saw your reply on gardeners lounge to the question about a computer program for gardening. Would like to talk wit you about my new group, Sage Gardening Tips Thanks, Nancy
Connie, you don't need to make any apologies to me for showing off those beautiful grandbabies! I mean it when I say they are delicious and gorgeous! If I saw those babies for real I'd squeeze them and kiss them! It sounds like you are close to your daughter - I can only imagine how hard that is being so far away from her. I don't know if I could manage it - my daughter is only 12 1/2, but we are so close. She is very attached to me, partly because the poor kid has pretty moderate to severe social anxiety - it's the way her brain is wired. She has trouble separating from me, and we're working very hard to help her. She's getting better slowly but surely, but I can't imagine her ever moving far away.
Just imagine, if this was 15 or 20 years ago, you wouldn't have all this technology to keep in tabs with your daughter and grandkids!
Take care!
Oh okay. So I have to look at my frost dates adn that will tell me when to plant, right? I just go backwards however many days it takes to grow the things, right?
Love the Christmas tree idea for Willis. Don't know if Devon would agree...although she has to have a fabulous sense of humor to be with Willis for so long! LOL Sheron - the photos would win! Hee hee heee!
Paul saw the new garden area I tilled. Wish…
Very beautiful Karen. This may seem funny but you will never guess where my appreciation of the harp was born.
