I couldn't imagine a very good garden without manure. I have a mix of eight-year-old mixed alpaca, sheep, and horse dung on my garden. It's best to have it aged, as it might be too high in nitrogen if it's fresh and burn the plants, but you can defi…

Got snow peas--had 'em for a week and they're starting to wind down in this heat. Thank God the T-storms broke it up today.

Has anybody had any experience raising these middle-eastern cucumbers? I just sent off for seed--usually raise a more common variety like Marketmore 76, say. I'd love to hear some feedback about what to expect. I will be growing them on the chain-li…

Still, it's worth it to take a MG course. There's a lot of info on diseases and soils and pruning--etc. I was hoping for a little landscape design though, and was dissappointed. But you can certainly put it on a resume under 'activities'.

For employment purposes, I'd pick the community college. My program was one or two nights a week, and no more than a semester (Vermont). They're usually run by an extension service of a university. My training was about 40 bucks, 1o-15 yrs. ago, w/…

Welcome Christina, from a MG in central Oklahoma. I have designed several user friendly gardens, and collect succulents from around the world.

I've found that heucheras don't like an unamended, heavy clay soil. My best success with them, including 'Palace Purple', is to add some compost or other soil amendment. Even in Missouri, the purple ones color up best with lots of sun.
