Birds are really active the last few days. I've had Pinon Jays, Robins, Nashville Warblers, Grosbeaks, Tanagers, about 15 hummers and unidentified vireos, until this morning. Finally, I was able to get a couple photos of the Plumbeous Vireo. Please…
Love everyones photos! GydaMarie, was your hawk able to sneak up on any birds? He blends in so well in the tree you would have to know he was there to find him.
Cathy, I agree with Judith. We have 5 Eurasian Collared Doves that hang out between my home and my sisters. When I first saw them, I too thought they could have been Ringed Turtle Doves. None the less, it was a new bird for our backyard list.
My hummers are starting to clear out too; the ones that are here though still act like they own the feeders. I had another young Flicker "anting" on the hill. This ones appears to be younger and smaller than the other one and I had a short visit fro…
Lillian, How wonderful to have sauch an awesome bird visit your garden. I've only seen honeyeaters in the wildbird magazines and guides to birds of the world. Thank you for posting the photo!
Glad you made it through Earl, Elizabeth. I was fortunate enough earlier to snap a photo of a Virginia's Warbler. He was working that juniper for quite a while.
finally got the dremel tool repaired and started on my lizard lodge. Made the cut without a problem and searched the property today for interesting looking rocks and such to decorate. Once I start assembling, I'm sure more creative ideas will come.…
Good morning, Catherine.
Freak works for me, just means you're passionate about something that other people think is weird. At least that is what my teenage kids tell me.
I am not familiar with Cravis and Glinka, but I will look them up. I love YouTube as it has turned me on to some new age composers that I love to play. The classics composers are the usual as you listed. In addition to those you mentioned, I also like Handel and Mendelssohn. I am not partial to any one composer since they vary in style with in themselves, so pieces I like while other pieces are not enjoyable to play at all. Joplin is fun too, I have a few books of his and play most of them. I seem to go in stages... for a while I will play nothing but the classics, then a month of two on Hymns, then six months on new age.
My latest find are some of the new age artist which include JIM BRICKMAN: (not his disney stuff) Freedom, Paradise, Bittersweet, Waterfall and Timeless are my favorites. YIRUMA: Yellow Room is my favorite. KEVIN KERN: Enchanted garden and Another Realm are my favts, but Through the Arbor in a good one too. WLLIAM JOSEPH: Sweet Remembrance of You is one that my daughter loves to hear me play.
As I said, YouTube is where I found the new age composers. I find my favorite video and use that as my inspiration to learn the piece. I purchase my music on line using the site Musicnotes.com. The price is mostly around $4.95 for each download and it prints right off as soon is it downloads to the computer. I love the convenience as the gratification is immediate.
Later today I will look up the two composers you mentioned. . I usually like to play songs that people have never heard before or are not familiar with, that way they never know when I make a mistake! Perhaps we are on to the start of a new group here: "Music in the Garden". ha-ha
Have a great day,
Rich
Oh my goodness, Catherine! I guess we were destined to be friends, because the coincidences just continue! I was adopted as an infant in NY in 1966, and my name for the first 6 months of my life was Beth IRENE! And...my husband lived in Homestead with his lovely late wife for several years in the early 80's. They owned a shop there, which failed after the Mariel boat lift occurred, bringing many "undesirables" & criminals into the area. Now, onto painting...I have ALWAYS said that I can COPY not create! I have to admit, that I am not a fan of Picasso, though.
Let's see if we have more in common! I have 3 children, one grandson, 4 chihuahua/mix dogs and a husband named Mike. Any matches? :)
Sure do! Posted a few small items on "Floral Painters" group. My major in college was actually Art Education, and so is my younger daughter's. She is MUCH more talented than I am in art, though. Okay, next neat thing: My middle name is Catherine! If yours is Lisa, I'll have to laugh!
Wish I could claim that this rose came from my garden..but it IS quite similar in color to the one I have growing outside right now. This is just some piano clip art I thought you'd like because it combines piano & a flower. Usually all I can find is a red rose pictured with piano keys. Your music goal is admirable. I winced just reading it! Very challenging music! Nice to meet someone with the same interests..too bad you are across the country! And of course...homemade treats are always the best!
You must be very accomplished! Chopin and Schubert especially are not known for easy music! Scott Joplin is my favorite! I love Pineapple Rag. A couple of years ago, my son and I were in Palm Beach Idol together and played a duet medley of Easy Winners/Maple Leaf Rag. It was a lot of fun! I teach piano out of a small studio here in south Florida. I love it!
We purchased this house in Irvine, Ca. in 1983. I started the main gardens in the back of the house right away. When I got these gardens somewhat established I started my other gardens in the front. My friend Kathy knew and loved my gardens. She call…
Love the picture Melanie, I'm with everyone else, I love that chair, what a bargain...I need to go shopping with you and the girls...and of course your daughter is a doll...takes after her mom.
Most amazing little creatures, all of them! What a wonderful photo- it fair took my breath when I logged in and it was the first thing I saw- Thank you for an end-of-the-day brightener. :)
