This is the Sizzlin' Pink Fringeflower I got from Lowes. Also knows as Chinese Witch Hazel. Evergreen Shrub...I'll take more pics when it blooms.

I'd like to see a picture of the "fringe flower". I planted a Fringe Tree last fall but not familiar with the Fringe Flower. Wondering if it is anything like what I call a Smoke Tree? PJ

Julie, I'm excited about an evergreen that isn't just plain green!

I have 3 of those (fringeflower) next to my house. Planted them last fall. They are very slow growing but seem to be doing OK so far. They are in full sun most of the day.

The last three days have been beautiful. I think I averaged 6 hours a day planting, potting, pruning and puttering in the garden. Hope you all had a good weekend.

Finally some flowers actually are blooming and was able to take a few pictures---more to come, as they come out. So good to be out in the garden this week. Hope you are all enjoying the cool temps, too.

Now, if the moles don't uproot everything before it gets well started, it will be great. Put down milky spore a month ago, but to no avail:-( I just keep stepping on their trails--but they do keep coming back. Between that and the bermuda trying to come into the gardens, who has time for more new… Continue

New here---finally : flower time!

Yeah---first blog here. Weather is great! My eyes are finally working after a bad reaction to Botox which left me seeing everything blurry or double and tipsy. Haven't done much for 6 weeks--even drive to nursery or read my gardening books or my own journal of my yard's flowers last year. Now I can actually look at last pictures of my beds and then, step into my flower gardens w/o stepping back on a small perennial just popping its head thru the dirt. They've now gotten big enough to be "safe" f… Continue

Hi Carol...We too have an abundance of those little pesky moles and I have tried almost everything to get rid of them and the only thing that really works for me is trapping them..I hired a fellow to come in and trap and he gave me lessons on how to set the traps and so far have gotten 8 of them and had as many as 13 traps set. There is a new item on the market that looks like a worm but didn't do much here although others said it has worked for them..Happy hunting

Carol, thank you for the lovely comments. Roses are my favorite. I only grow antique varieties and the David Austin English roses. Of course, you have to have perennials to grow with them! lol Your flowers are so lush and beautiful!

Carol, I read your note about the moles. My grandma used to poke caster bean seads into the runs; the moles eat them and it kills them. I am not sure if you can still buy them since they are poisonous. If you can't find them, let me know, I might be able to help you out.

Hi Carol, Thanks for your comments. I do enjoy my gardens. Just came in from weeding out impatients. They reseed every year and there are hundred of little plants comng up. I hate to throw them away so I put them in pots and give them to my friends. They are one of my favorite annuals.
Enjoyed seeing the pictures you posted.
We live in a golf course community just outside of Knoxville (Loudon County).
On your website you said you move south from NYS- is that New York state? I lived in New Jersey until I was married..

Just moved South 4 years ago from NYS---still learning the differences in gardening here, esp. in the hot sun of my lot! Have learned to garden as early in the day --or late--as possible. The sun here is way too much for the afternoon work I used to do up North.

Anyone from around Nashville on this site?

Well I have several sources of water, 3 bird baths and our waterfall in our pond. Never had this problem before. I have always had hummers. Just wondering if the winter weather we had messed them up. Oh well maybe next year.
