It shouldn't be a problem. Galvanized metal is steel coated with a zinc oxide to weather proof it somewhat. Zinc oxide is actually beneficial to your plants and you. Galvanized metal water storage tanks have been used for at least a hundred years wi…
I have a few coneflowers in close proximity to my 3 sisters garden that have gotten quite large and dense, and a vine has attached itself to it. My husband said yesterday, "Your vine is attacking your flower." I said, "I guess she's a step-sister."…
Oddly enough, there are reports that bright pink petunia's drive off squash bugs so try adding those to the bed. Also, healthy plants don't attract bugs so mulch heavily with compost. Mix up a gallon of Garrett Juice and add in an ounce of orange oi…
Hello everyone.
I am having a huge problem with squash bugs in my tomato garden. Is there anything organically that I can use to get rid of them? Right now I have basil, zinnias and marigolds planted with them.
Oh, I also have flea beetles eating…
Updated pics 30 days after planting.
Also included a picture of the corn which has been in a bit longer. We had some corn damage with last week's storms, but after staking the stalks, everthing looks pretty good. Only lost one corn plant that snapp…
I just kept watching mine and if the corn didn't come up in a mound, I planted more. However, without the supports my hubby built, I doubt if the beans would have had enough support. Especially after last night's storms we had in north TX. We had ab…
All thanks to my wonderful husband - he does all the hard stuff! I just plant and caretake! We had a lot of rain too, about 8 inches in the last few weeks. I am just now getting my tomatoes and peppers in the ground. Hope it won't be too hot for the…
I have been using the BT between the daily thunder storms that we have been getting here in florida, and I believe it is starting to work. But I believe I am getting bottom rot on the tomatoes. I think that is what it is. Brown spots.
Wow, You have done a great job. THat looks wonderful. i have been trying to start mine but it has been raining so much I haven't had a chance to get out there and plant them.

This is my first year, so it is all about experimenting. I am a retired technologist so I get crazy sometimes. I started using all organic seeds. The box is filled with compost from the recycled stuff in my area. I had someone bring 2 truckloads to fill it. I used lots of yard waste, sticks & stuff on the bottom. The compost is very thick & I find the carrots are having a hard time. I am starting to add garden soil to it as it settles. The Miracle Grow soil is more soft & loomy, & probably better for the roots. As much as I wanted to keep it all organic, it will probably take a little more learning for me. Right now, it is all about production & having fun. I just love eating the fresh veggies, & am trying for a more raw diet. Whatever happens, I am having all the fun in the world!! :)
That is my very first baby watermelon. Since then I have 4 more large ones. Lots of water & Miracle Grow. I used compost in my box. All my veggies are very large & grow very fast. I planted the first seeds in December. This is my first & I am very pleased with the outcome so far.
Well I have several sources of water, 3 bird baths and our waterfall in our pond. Never had this problem before. I have always had hummers. Just wondering if the winter weather we had messed them up. Oh well maybe next year.
Clare, your Pinky Winky is beautiful - love the blooms and the pink coloring of the branches too. My paniculatas Pee Gee and Limelight are already blooming too, about a month ahead of schedule! Now I am wondering whether I should have done reshaping…
Diane, sorry for not making my message more clear - my reminder was about those shrubs that need to be scaled down and in my region (zones 5 & 6) the buds for the next season form on new growth in August so cutting the brunches after July would have…
Crazy rainstorm last night, ripped down half the ivy on the wall. Had to cut it down, so I figured what the heck I'll collect snails in my garden. Armed with chopsticks (they make it way easy to gather up tiny guys under plants if you are profficent…
Sheryl, that shouldn't be a problem, I have a seed feeder in close proximity and the humming birds seem happy enough to share. They just seem to perch on the tiny twigs where the big guys cant get to. Chech the surronding territory, perhaps someone…
