Hi everyone. I guess I don't follow Mel's SFG to the letter, as I don't use his mix. But, I do use the SFG method for laying out my seeds and plants. I was amazed at how much food I got last year out of four 5'x5' beds simply by doing away with 'row mentality'!
This year I expanded my beds to four 3'x20' beds and one 3'x24' bed. Last year I used lumber that I recycled from old pallets that were left 'for free', and this year I was able to acquire a pile of used landscaping bricks to use.

I have photos on my page of last year's beds...new photos should go up sometime this weekend of this year's garden :)

This year I am growing:
Strawberries
Blueberries
Brocolli
Cauliflower
Potatoes
Green Beans
Lima Beans
Soy Beans
Sugar Snap Peas
Cabbage
Onions
Tomatoes
Bell Peppers
Hot Peppers
Leeks
Kale
Lettuce
Swiss Chard
Salad Greens: Arugula, Claytonia, Mizuna and Mâche

Hi Adele! That's awesome about the lumber for your boxes!!! Are you using Mel's Mix?

Here in northern Wyoming, we're in zone 4 just past the avg "last" freeze dates. Sprouting up in my SFG:
onions
Yukon Gold potatoes
Wando Peas (bush type)
Bush Beans
lettuce
raddishes
cukes

Still to be planted:
roma tomatoes
carrots
corn
eggplant
pumpkins
watermelon
cantalope

Happy Gardening!

Hi! I'm just starting my vegetable garden. I was going to buy lumber to build a raised garden bed, but then my neighbor was throwing away old closet doors. He'd cut each pair of bi-fold doors in half so I didn't have to make any cuts. I built myself 3 garden boxes, two 3' x 8', and one 4' x 6'... and they didn't cost me anything, yet... just the seeds.

Anyone delt with wind barriers for their SFG? We're getting some gusty winds here in Wyoming. Blew out one of my squares... had just planted peas!

Hi Giuseppe! Congratulations on your new home & for gathering up supplies to make some boxes! I've got 9 4x4 boxes made... just filled one with Mel's Mix the other day.

Hi, Giuseppe from South Jersey, the"garden State", Have moved in new home and am excited about the plastic planks 2" thick and 12' long . Finally will build the boxes 4x8 that will last a long time. I located them from a custom deck bilder which purchased the planks then the project was stopped and he was stuck with a large amount of these BROWN planks . Just the right size for me....cant wait to fill the boxes and plant my veggies....
