Thanks Kim, I'll do that.. it's nice to know there is such a website for insect identifications...
Kim Beall Comment by Kim Beall on July 26, 2010 at 1:54pm
Muriel and Aleta (and everyone!): Try whatsthatbug.com - you can do a search to try to find photos to identify bugs, or you can submit a photo and the bug-loving members will almost always be able to identify it. I have IDed every mystery bug I've ever seen thanks to that site, but sometimes I just go there 'cause it's just plain fascinating!

I just joined this forum and would like some help from you guys, I hope somebody can help me out. Does anyone know what these are? I found them in clusters on my artichoke plant. I sprayed them with water to get them off the plant, and I wish they're gone for good... but if not, what can I do to kill them? Is there any safe way I can eliminate them? I'm doing organic gardening so I'd like to use safe products for my plants. Any ideas please? Thanks so much.

Just joined this group today, so please let me know if this was in a past conversation. I have never in my life, seen so many Japanese beetles. I have lived in this same house for 24 years and have never ever seen an infestation like this. Is it the weather conditions or what? Far too many to go walking around collecting them in a jar of soapy water. We put up traps, some are attracted to it, but I still have hundreds all over the place. Will diatomaceous earth kill them?

He doesn't seem to ever be eating lettuce, at least not during the day. He just sits on the top of the head and watches. I hope he's munching bad guys.

Muriel, I don't know what insect that is, but it sure is beautiful! Let me know if you find out what it is...

I just had two of the three preying mantis egg sacks hatch this weekend, and my herb garden and flower bed have been filled with hundreds of baby mantids. About 1/2 inch long by 1/16 inch wide! So cute.

Is this a good guy or a bad guy in my lettuce?

I love my scarecrow motion activated sprinkler. Put it at the base of the rose and anything that moves, including you, will get a shot of water.

Leilani, you need to get some plywood, cut it in shapes to fill the area and pound a bunch of nails into the plywood. Cats and other animals will not walk on a bed of nails.

I have a problem! A Tom cat has chosen a corner of one of my rose beds to spray every time he visits. It stinks, and the rose is suffering I think, since its smaller than the rest and the pretty peach yellow blooms are small and mottled.
Do I have to pull it up? and how do I get this cat out of there? we have no fences and no way to keep critters out. We had a skunk visit last night, Im wondering if was attracted to the Toms spray scent?
This is a repost from Roses grp, but I figured to try pest people as well.

Diane, sorry for not making my message more clear - my reminder was about those shrubs that need to be scaled down and in my region (zones 5 & 6) the buds for the next season form on new growth in August so cutting the brunches after July would have…

Love this flower. Never was able to grow it though. Thought it was called queen Anns Lace. I think it adds charm to the garden.

Sheryl, that shouldn't be a problem, I have a seed feeder in close proximity and the humming birds seem happy enough to share. They just seem to perch on the tiny twigs where the big guys cant get to. Chech the surronding territory, perhaps someone…
