I meant to say also, that this is the first year that the birds have really come back around. I've had Mockingbirds, Blue Jays, Orioles, Mourning Doves, and lots others. For years the cats were very bad, and then they eventually stopped coming around. Now that I have the feeder, the cats are a real pain again...
Well, I'm off to Dollar Tee to get some Moth Balls.

Thank you guys.
Will the moth-balls be an issue with my plants, the birds, or with insects? And, will they still be effective if they get wet?
I'm thinking I should move the bird-feeder anyway. I have Sunflowers sprouting all over my flower beds now because the birds are knocking the seeds out of the feeder.

I say when the shelter comes for them. Have some collars with bells on them and tell them could they put them on them so they warn the birds. Just a suggestion.

Hi Adele I know how much of a problem feral cats are... I would suggest trying moth balls. I cant stand when people let their cats outside , they're spraying everything and using my *GARDEN* as their litterbox... I would also try, if they come around when you are out there to spray them with a hose, no harm to the cat but they really dont like the water! Thats why we all have to be responsible for our pets and get them spayed or nuetered. Let me know if any of these ideas work for you! Judi

I posted this in another group, but I NEED help, and ANY suggestions to solve my problem.
My dilemma is that I have stray cats around my yard. They are spraying by my front door, and it gets on our shoes and tracked into my house. They're also going after the birds that are coming to feed on my bird-feeder, and knocking over my neighbor's trash cans (then her trash ends up all over my lawn).
Our town animal shelter said they're considered a wild animal, and won't come and collect them. They gave me the number for a place that will come get them, spay or neuter them, but then release them back here. That'll solve the issue of them spraying, but not the birds.
Does any one have any suggestions on how to keep the cats away from my house? I don't have a lot of money, so the cheaper the solution the better.

We could try planting it pot and all and it wouldn't spread so much.

I've found that heucheras don't like an unamended, heavy clay soil. My best success with them, including 'Palace Purple', is to add some compost or other soil amendment. Even in Missouri, the purple ones color up best with lots of sun.
