Purchased onion sets to plant in immediate future in elevated box gardens south of Pittsburgh. Roto-tilled vegetable garden on Friday, March 12, 2010 with 61 degree temperature and rain on the way.

Patiently waiting for spring here in the Lehigh Valley! Right before the snow, I saw signs of life from my seedums... I had to brush the heavy snow off the scotch broom, now it stands tall and green amid a garden of white..

Great pictures Janice. We filled up our bird feeders just before the storm and the birds have shown their gratitude by feasting daily on our back deck. Remember, Today is one day closer to Spring"!!!

I've left my cold frame go for the last few years due to the fact that I went back to school and didn't really have time to do the whole seed thing. This year I want to clean it out and put fresh soil into it and start over with some basil & zinnia seeds. Does anyone have any advice about a soil mixture? I have some compost, topsoil and potting soil.

Garden Expo sounds like a good visit but I don't think we can make it this year. Today is sunny in NE PA and I am at the window drooling to get into my garden. This is the first year I am going to try planting from my own seeds. Just a few flowers and some veggies, cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, eggplant. I saw some seed starter kits at Lowes, has anyone used them? Any suggestions on how else to get started? I got a catalog from John Scheepers detailing their kitchen garden seeds. Has anyone ordered from them?

Tracey, Would love to go...but 3 hr drive in the "snow" would not work for me. Cold and windy on the Western part of PA. Patiently waiting for spring. Planning a trip in April to St Louis to visit my son and his family. Will try to get to the Botanial Gardens again and see what I missed on the last trip. It was so beautiful there...I could just go and sit all day and admire what they have. Happy Garden Planning to all our other Pa People...

I posted a photo of a section of Pennsylvania woods in Tyler Arboretum with a lot of American Beech trees in the Photography Group page. One of my very favorite trees.

Brenna- Try growing some herbs or leaf lettuces in a sunny window. Because of the houses around me, the only place that I have to grow sun loving things in the wintertime is in my attic. Last year I had roses, mums, tulips and lettuce growing up there. I am trying primroses in my office, as Giant had them on sales this week :D Other general houseplants take up my other windows, too.
