I am looking for suggestions for a ground cover in my garden area. There is a place where I will not be planting anything, I will need a walking path and I have an A-frame swing there. I do not want grass to cut or pavers bricks. I thought about moss but dont know if that is a good idea or not. Any suggestions?

I'm new to the group. Does anyone have a software program they like to use when drawing up a landscape design? I'm looking for something that costs $50 or less to help me plan the occasional landscape for friends and family.

We found a fellow locally who we bought trees from...a 12' Colorado Blue Spruce for $200 including planting, and a 7' White Fir for $100...since we rent, our landlady happily paid 2/3 of the total...what a difference!!! We were in a quandry since this house faces north.

Hostas and Jack Frost Brunnera also really dressed up the front.

...for environmental conservation, and mainly getting rid of dust pollution from mining industries (my place of work ) tree planting is the best option for beautiful land scape.

I hope to add and Arbor to the front of the garden with some grapes as an entry. And eventually a garden shed off to the right of the garden that the stone walk will also go to. It will be a work in progress project. Hopefully to have less grass to mow and vegetables, fruit, and blooms throughout the summer. Below is the start.

I want to create a stone steps and walkway from my drive to my garden area. I am going to have to make a small retaining wall along the edge of my cement drive and then landscpe along the walk with som perenials. It is in a partial shade area during the morning. Any ideas on types of plants. I have hostas I can break apart.

I've found that heucheras don't like an unamended, heavy clay soil. My best success with them, including 'Palace Purple', is to add some compost or other soil amendment. Even in Missouri, the purple ones color up best with lots of sun.
