There are so many wonderful flowers to choose from dont know where to stop. i only have a small plot but starting from bare earth i am dividing it up into cottage border, herbs and more cottage, a section will be entirely fragrance and the final small piece will have a japanese theme. Only at the killing off the grass stage as yet. Digging and preparation will take place over winter. i need to limit the number of fragrance plants to about 25, all have to be perennial and mainly shrubs and climbers. Difficult decisions to make at what to leave out.

Hi Edward-i just looked that one up. It is gorgeous. If it grows in my area I'd like to try it. I get my roses from a California grower and I should be able to find out if this one is good for me. There is a group that I

belong to called "Antique and English Roses" Do you know about it. A friend of mine started it. I have 10 D.A. roses. One of my favorites is "Abraham Darby" smells like apricot jam. Here is a photo.

A brilliant rose variety for fragrance here in the Uk is one called "Brother Cadfael", so delicious I could eat it. I dont know if it is available in the US.

This is a Peacock Orchid, which is not an orchid but related to gladiolus and iris. It has the most wonderful smell...I have them blooming for the third year and feel very lucky that they have survived the winters since I just let them winter inthe ground. Very easy to grow but need lots of sun.

We have a hearty hibiscus, which is a shrub and does fine in through the winter here in the mid-atlantic, not sure about Michigan. I have a couple tropical hibiscus that Summer on the patio but must come inside in the fall.

Beautiful rose.
The Hibiscus will not take the winter. You have to bring it in. Its a tropical plant. There is no fragrance.

Hi Tammy-Thank you. Here is a new photo of my most fragrant rose. It is called "Fragrant Cloud" One year I

was having a garden tour. A man walked down my side path and they came into my garden area. His wife was in front and his mother behind. I could see that he was totally blind. I went over to this rose bush and took a rose to him. They stayed for an hour just smelling my roses. When they were about to leave his wife asked me to write down my most fragrant roses. I did. They were going to plant a fragrant garden for him.
