How about an old white iron or brass bed? I have also seen old iron cribs used, I just bought an old iron childs bed without the rails, have not decided how to use it yet but the planter box sounds good.

I wish I could find a frame of an old cast iron bed. I would put a planter box in place of the mattress and would plant floweres maybe in a patchwork pattern. Vines could crawl up the head board. If any one sees this or does this send me a picture. It would be a cool flower bed.

Paula, I used the drawers of an old chest of drawers in my garden and I love the look!! I planted herbs in each drawer - sage, parsley, thyme, lemon thyme and tarragon. All of them have done very well and I like the look! Several neighbors have seen it and also made positive comments on it. I just lined each drawer with weed block (not sure if that was right, but it seems to be working). I'm not sure how long the drawers will last but that's okay. Have fun with your ideas!!

My garage is getting full of containers for next spring planting. I have saved all my plastic coffee cans. Gallon salad dressing containers I get from work I will cut down and make Planters. I figure if I plant trailing plants they will cover the plastic look. Or get spray paint for plastic. I wont spray paint the inside. 2 leater soda bottles I cut the top off and will plant flowers. Maybe I can switch them out if I put them directly in flower boxes.

I wonder if I can use an old chest of drawers. The drawers are broken wont close but the base chest its self if I take out the insides just leave the frame can I line it with lawn fabric or something and fill it with potting soil. It would be kind of a deep flower bed maybe. But it is treated wood. any coments?

This is #1 on my wish list for spring. I have bought so many packets of seeds to start. Ive visited thrift stores, GoodWill and Salvation army and bought diffrent containers. IM I the only person that sees something and thinks wonder what I could plant in that?

Great planter Sheryl. I love re-purposed items in the garden like your kettle.

Lydia, it sounds like you have a much bigger groundhog problem than I do! Funny thing is that our groundhog does not touch the tomatoes (although the chipmunks eat the ones that hang low on the plants). I guess that's because he is so obsessed with…

Thanks Mia and Tanya. These busy eaters will pretty much polish off all the Passion Vine leaves. Not to worry, they come back with a 'passion.'

Pretty boisterous thunderstorms in the middle of last night. Hubby slept through it. Our lovable mutt Rudy had to be sedated.. poor baby but he was fine then. JoJo, our 7 mo. old goldendoodle almost bounced off the bed when one super loud thunder cl…
