Nice shots Randy. It's encouraging to know there are Monarchs out there - somewhere.
I still have fluttering, friendly Frits. They really do look like they are having fun. One of them followed me all over the garden this morning seemingly posing for me on the various flowers I stopped by.

Today was an interesting day in the garden with at least 6 and probably more Monarchs. They seemed like they were every where. A different Viceroy was here, as well as a Question Mark. We still have Buckeyes and a lone Red Admiral showed too. Both Meadow and Great Spangled Fritillaries were here as well.

I thought I would share this here. I am so backed up with this board, but some time I WILL find the time for Gardeners Index again (to get fully caught up).
An Audubon guide article on identifying fritillaries:

I just posted this in the reference guide above but thought I would post it here too. A great teachers and garden group streaming video site on pollinators. Take a look!

Loved the Sphinx moth Elizabeth. Such an interesting wing color pattern.
Randy - the Gulf Frits had a hard year due to extremely cold weather in S FL. Everyone was worried about them. They have been very late here in NW FL and seem to be making up for lost time. My garden finally is filled with them and I am seeing double!

Nice capture on the Sphinx moth, Elizabeth. Still seeing quite a few butterflies. I saw a Summer Azure Butterfly this morning plus a few more.

These aren't the best shots of my sphinx moth that comes to my moon flowrs each evening but they are so fast, hard to get a good shot. Very large moths adn they will fly right into ya if you get in their way!!

Great pictures Mae! Loved yours as well, Cathy. I have never seen a Gulf Fritillary here, they say that they can get this far north. Yesterday was pretty busy with butterflies. We had a Viceroy, Meadow fritillary, Buckeyes, Clouded Sulfur, Orange Sulfur, Red Spotted Purple, Monarchs, Cabbage White, Pearl Crescents, Silver Spotted Skippers, Fiery Skippers, Pecks Skippers, and other skippers that I don't know the names of.

I have a question I have had a necklace pod plant for many years. All of a sudden all the leaves are gone like it has had caterpillars on it. Is this a host plant for any of the butterflies??

Great shots Mae!
Start 'em young and they'll be life long gardeners and nature lovers!

Hey to all varmits abound in your neck of the woods. I was sitting at my computer the other night and the back door was ajar. I looked down to my side and an opossum was staring up at me. I gave it a little shout bugaboo and it quickly retreated. Ad…

All I can say is based on all the pictures of yours that I've seen, I find it hard to believe that you just started taking pictures recently. You are good!
